Description: An original hand written document from the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1st. All contents written in Latin. Ornate calligraphic heading. Measures 16½ inches by 9 inches. The date is at the foot of the document - “decimo octavo die mensis March” - 18th day in the month of March. “ Elizabeth octavo” - the 8th year of her reign which would date it to 1566. The document comes with a paper translation of some of the contents. Presumably this was done by a previous owner. I cannot read much Latin so will use this to describe the contents. Relates to a Conveyance for £40 between: • Henry Sacheverell of Ratcliffe on Soar in the County of Nottingham, Esquire. • Henry Ryley of Upper Bonsley in Alstonfield in the County of Stafford, Husbandman. Henry Sacheverell appoints William Jackeson and Robert Ryley attorneys to deliver seisin. Relates to a Messuage and land at Tunstedde in the barony of Longnor in the Parish of Alstonfield. There are some names at the bottom of the translation. These names appear on the reverse of the document (I think they might be witnesses). CONDITION. Contents complete. No holes or tears. Some minor marks and darkening to vellum in places but very good clean condition for a document of this age. Ink clear and free of fading. Retains the original vellum tab but the wax seal is lacking.
