The letter was opened and read by Mrs. Davis (Signed W. O. Davis at bottom) who added a letter about family life, missing him and how the children are and mentioning turnips, berries and "First warm weather." She then re-addressed the letter and refolded it exactly. The Lynchburg datestamp was crossed out and "Cedar Grove Mills" was crossed out and simply readdressed to "Fredericks Hall Depot, Louisa County." This is an original folded "stampless" letter with a Virginia State postal marking.The letter IS present. You are purchasing BOTH the letter and the postal markings. The letter has not been separated--it's still here, and pictured. ONE of the reasons it is collectible is because of the fact that the local postmaster applied postal markings considered appropriate for the letter's journey--namely: The originating town name and a rate.
