Description: Allen Bellman was born in Manhattan and studied at the High School of Industrial Arts. He eventually became a staff artist at Timely during the Golden Age of comics. While still a teenager, he did the backgrounds for Syd Shores' Captain America in 1942, and eventually worked on titles such as: The Patriot, The Destroyer, The Human Torch, Jap Buster Johnson and Jet Dixon of the Space Squadron, All Winners Comics, Marvel Mystery, Sub Mariner Comics, Young Allies and so much more. Working with Stan Lee at Timely Comics, Allen proudly proclaims, “I was there” in reference to his early days of working during the dawn of the Golden Age. For this print, the MEARS Pop Culture Museum commissioned Allen Bellman to create this original pencil drawling of Captain America with shield raised which is deflecting a barrage of bullets. We chose to have Mr. Bellman provide us with a rough sketch of his work, which allowed us to capture the process that is involved in creating of a piece of artwork. The heavy pencil lines are drawn in classic Bellman style. On October 21st, 2017, the professional staff of MEARS met with Allen Bellman at the Grand Rapids Comic Con to conduct a very special private signing. Mr. Bellman signed this 11x17 gloss archival stock paper print in near mint blue sharpie marker. Each print has been authenticated by the professional staff of JSA autograph authenticators and their official company hologram and matching certificate of authenticity card accompanying this piece. Their unique hologram number is maintained at the JSA website which validates the items authenticity. (P0046)
