The sumptuous new film treatment of the beloved Verdi work is directed by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle and also features international opera stars Ingvar Wixell as Rigoletto and Edita Gruberova as his daughter Gilda. Riccardo Chailly conducts the Vienna Philharmonic in the production, shot in authentic Renaissance settings in Northern Italy. A Unitel, Munich, production, Rigoletto is presented on public television by WNET Thirteen, New York.
