Description: Truly striking antique two-part welsh “dresser” or cupboard from the 19th Century, professionally refinished. Imported from the UK, and crafted of wonderfully figured oak, finished in a warm honey-amber color. The vertical boards behind the shelves have aged to a rich tobacco brown. The base has two slightly projecting stacks of four drawers at either side, slightly graduated from the smallest at top to the deepest on the bottom. The secondary wood is pine, and the drawers are dovetailed on all four corners. The center section recesses slightly, and has a central door with a raised panel arched top design. This is flanked by two smaller doors, each with a door above. The hardware is solid brass. There is a raised front edge on each shelf, allowing them to safely store and display plates and platters. The top sits on and slots into the two brackets at either end. A series of wood screws attach the top to the base along the back. There are two keys, one for the center door and one for the two smaller ones. The locking mechanisms on the two smaller doors work, but the key for the center door does not turn, and is used to open and close the door. Structurally perfect - solid and level with no warping, sticky drawers or uneven surfaces. The top of the base shows its age, and two tight non-structural cracks, but is flat and level, which is normal for these pieces. There are age cracks on the top’s back boards ( see in photos), but all are tight, solid and even, which helps tell the cupboard's story and history. 86” tall. The base is 35” high, and the upper portion is 51” high. The base is 75” wide. The upper shelves are 72” wide. The cornice is 79.5” wide. The base is 17.75” deep at either end. The upper shelves are 5.5” deep. The cornice is 9” deep. All furniture is shipped with 14 to 24 days of purchase. Items to the West Coast may take and extra one to two weeks. All furniture is hand delivered by private shippers to ensure the safety of each item. All pieces are professionally wrapped for safe transportation and storage.
