Description: Abingdon Pottery in Illinois made various vases and figurines from 1934 to 1950. This sitting goose figurine - shape #571 - was made from 1942 to 1947. An example of this shape can be seen on page 107 of the 1997 Abingdon reference book - Abingdon Pottery Artware by Joe Paradis. It is about 5 inches tall, 2-1/2 inches wide, and 4 inches beak-to-tail. The oval bottom rim is about 3 inches by 2-1/4 inches. The bottom has the rectangular Abingdon U.S. A. ink stamp but no shape number. Referred to in the catalogs as "sitting" goose, I've always called it "nesting" goose. It sits on an oval base with a nice glossy pink glaze, probably "cameo pink" used 1942 to 1947 and described in Abingdon catalogs as "A light pink shade in a soft waxy matt texture". It is in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing. It is a duplicate from my own collection and time to pass it on to someone who will enjoy it as much as I have.
