Description: For sale is an Antique 1830s American Flint Glass hand blown Cordial/Shot Glass with classic conical form stem and a rough Open Pontil mark at the base, both of which are good indicators for its old age. Cordial, sometimes called liqueur, is an old time sweet (often flavored) alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink. In old days, taking cordial in small amount is believed to be medicinal and good for one’s heart. Hence, cordial glass is very popular stemware for tavern and home. It is usually small in size. Like most early American hand blown glass, these cordial stemware often includes an occasional bubble or two and may have uneven whirling patterns. These imperfections makes old glass has a beautiful and unique look compare to modern factory made ones. This particular cordial is made with true flint glass (a type of glass with high lead content used only in early quality stemware). It produces the signature high pitched echoing ring when knocked. It measures approximately 5.75” tall and 2” in diameter at the rim. There is no chips, cracks, or any other damages to the item. Excellent condition! Age appropriate wears (especially on the base) are to be expected. Please check all photos for detailed condition. Please feel free to check out my other antique and collectible listings (many early American flint glass cordials acquired from an estate collection). I gladly combine shipping whenever practical.
