Description: Circa 1886 to early 1900's Buckeye Glass Company's clear or colorless 'Fishscale' pattern miniature kerosene lamp. Please reference Smith book 1 page 77 figure 116. Lamp is about 4 3/4" tall to the top of the dated brass collar, 8 3/4" tall to the top of the chimney with a 2 5/8" base diameter. Also, please reference Anne McDonald's "Evolution of the Night Lamp" page 77. This book gives the information on the manufacturer. Anne found an old article in the February 1886 Crockery & Glass Journal advertising these lamps. Their possibly could have been an earlier advertisement that wasn't found. This lamp came in a variety of colors. The dated Taplin-Brown collar reads 'Pat'd Apr.13.1876' and below that 'Mch.21.1875'. The lamp comes complete with a signed 'Pearl' (on the thumbwheel) acorn burner and a replacement chimney. Pattern is very crisp and well embossed throughout the entire piece. Overall very good condition with no cracks or chips has the usual bubbles, straw marks, and base wear. A few annealing or cooling lines to the base edge. The collar has a split, but is firmly attached and is a little crooked since it was never pressed all the way down. The dates on the collar are hard to read. Please look at all photos as they are part of the description. Buyer pays P/S/I.
