Description: Antique Nepalese Bronze Figure Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara 18th Century Nepal Click images to enlarge Description Antique 18th-century Nepalese bronze figure of Bodhisattva Padmapani Avalokiteshvara. The figure is finely cast using the lost wax technique in copper alloy with hand-finished details. A high-crowned Nepalese Avalokiteshvara stands half-naked in a tribhanga pose on a lotus base, which rests on an oval plinth. Her right hand is extended along her hip in varada mudra, while her raised left hand is in vitarka mudra, with the stem of a blossoming lotus positioned near her arm. She is clad in a long dhoti, incised with finer floral decoration and tied at her waist with a sash falling between her legs. Her naked torso with overly rounded breasts is adorned with hand-chased with great details necklaces, and her arms are adorned with armlets and bracelets. Her face wears a slight smile, radiating a quiet glow that conveys a spiritual essence. Her youthful beauty enhances the captivating appeal of the Goddess of Compassion. She has a prominent nose, almond-shaped eyes slightly downcast in contemplation, full lips, and elongated earlobes adorned with earrings shaped like lotus flowers. Her head is adorned with an intricate high diadem and surrounded by a radiant flaming aureole. CONDITION: The item is in good condition for its age and use, showing wear in the exposed areas. It features a rich dark brown patina overall. An old hardwood block has been inserted into the base and installed later. NOTE: The bronze is much darker, as it appears in the pictures, due to the artificial light used while taking photos to show the finely hand-chased details of the sculpture. Hence, the sculpture appears much darker and less glittery in natural daylight. MEASUREMENTS: Height: 23.5 cm ( 9.25 inches). Weight: 711 grams(1.567 lb).
