Description: Fascinating antique Black Basalt Wedgwood Dragon Kenlock Ware manufactured between 1895 and 1905 The outside finish is matte black but the inside is high gloss, presumably so you can brew tea. The rims around the top of the teapot, the edge of the lid, the top of the lid handle, and the lip of the spout are painted green. The designs are painted in polychrome enamel. There are 3 dragons on the teapot and 2 dragons on the lid. They must be Japanese because they have 3 toes, but they are a little roly-poly so maybe they are babies? The mark on the bottom is printed in pale red: Dragon Kenlock Ware in script and C3439 with two dots below handwritten in a brighter red. There are also two impressed marks: WEDGWOOD and ENGLAND. There are 3 curved impressed marks - perhaps they have some significance as well? No paint loss but there are 2 chips - not bad for a teapot that's 125 years old! One chip is on the side of the spout, the other is on the outside green painted rim - please look carefully at photos before bidding Shipping is calculated by eBay using weight if you choose USPS Ground Advantage and distance+weight if you choose USPS Priority Your purchase supports the Port Jefferson Historical Society Consignment Shop - thank you!
