Description: BETHLEHEM STEELSPARROWS POINT "ID CARD READER IN USE AT VEHICLE ENTRANCES"PAPERBOARD SIGN11" X 14"Up for sale I have a very cool, vintage paperboard sign rescued from the now-defunct Bethlehem Steel plant in Sparrows Point, Baltimore, Maryland.This sign has a graphic of a hand sliding an ID card through a card reader and used to be located at one of the main entrance gates of the plant. It reads, in black text:"ID card reader in use at vehicle entrances", followed by "Correct position for passing ID card through reader", and the graphic at the bottom of the sign.This sign measures 11" wide and 14" high, is made of high quality paperboard, and is in excellent condition. There are a few minor scuffs on the edges of the sign that could likely be wiped clean with a damp cloth. The back is a solid gray color with a "Crescent Quality Boards" logo imprinted on it.Bethlehem Steel bought its Sparrows Point location from the Pennsylvania Steel Company in 1916. It quickly blossomed into an empire, becoming the world's largest steel mill, stretching 4 miles end-to-end. Sparrows Point rolled out the steel used to make such notable symbols of American infrastructure as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the George Washington Bridge in New York City. Beth Steel's Fairfield Shipyard was also responsible for the manufacture of the ships that were instrumental to winning World War II.This sign would be a great addition to your man cave, den, or garage. The mill at Sparrows Point quickly eclipsed the production levels of the main Pennsylvania plant, and by the middle of the 20th century had been named the largest steel mill in the world.
