His playing career spanned 20 years, and he retired with a lifetime .290 batting average, 908 runs scored, and 1,077 RBIs amongst other stats. Playing in both the 1929 and 1932 WORLD SERIES, his WORLD SERIES BATTING AVERAGE WAS .364 (12 for 33) with 4 runs, 2 doubles, 1 homer, 5 RBIs and 3 walks. Midway through the 1932 season, while playing for the Cubs, Grimm was promoted to PLAYER-MANAGER and proceeded to RALLY THE TEAM TO 37 WINS IN THEIR LAST 55 games to help the team FINISH WITH A 90-64 RECORD and claim the NATIONAL LEAGUE PENNANT (although they got swept in the World Series). He BROUGHT THEM BACK TO THE SERIES in 1935 with their FIRST 100-WIN SEASON in 25 years, still as player-manager, though they lost that one as well in 6 games. Grimm managed on and off for the Cubs over the course of his 19-YEAR MANAGERIAL CAREER, in addition to a stint for the Boston/Milwaukee Braves. He is ONE OF A VERY FEW SMALL NUMBER of individuals to BOTH PLAY IN 2,000 GAMES and MANAGE IN 2,000 GAMES. He managed the CUBS TO 3 PENNANTS, and his 946 WINS AS CUBS MANAGER IS STILL SECOND MOST IN TEAM HISTORY!! After finally hanging up his managerial spikes, Grimm elevated to the Cubs' front office where he stayed until finally retiring in 1981.
