Description: Very good vintage copy of Knute Rockne Young Athlete by Guernsey Van Riper Jr #41 in the Childhood of Famous Americans series. This is the original orange cloth cover edition with the silhouette illustrations by Paul Laune. This was published in 1952. This is the first edition, but the exact printing is unknown. Bobbs Merrill, the publisher didn't note editions and printings in their children's books. The book itself is very good, free of writing or other damage. The covers are bright and clean. The spine cloth is very slightly ribbed, but solid and unworn. The jacket is good with moderate edgewear and significant foxing. There is light age toning to the endpapers in the book. The original price of $1.95 is still on the jacket flap. Knute Rockne was an early star in college football and became a famous coach at Notre Dame. His star was still bright in the 1950s when this book was written. He died in an airplane crash in 1931 and became a legend. This will be packaged carefully to prevent damage in shipping.
