Description: This alphabetical order activity, with a St. Patrick's Day theme, is adorable! It is brand new and in excellent condition! I laminated the materials for durability, and so that those that needed to be written on could be done so with a fine-tip dry erase marker, and then wiped clean with a cloth or tissue, so they could be reused! This set comes from a smoke free home. I received this set an elementary school, Language Arts inservice for teachers. It consists of 5 sheets that measure 8.5" x 11" and 14 cards that measure 4.25" x 3.125". I did color in images on sheets, with colored pencils, to make them more inviting to children. The majority of the pages are illustrated with a border of stemmed green shamrocks and black flowers in 2 different sizes. The header is titled "ABC Order" in bold black text. It features a gray St. Patrick's Day robot. He has orange cheeks, arms, and legs, a black belt with a yellow buckle, and is wearing a green top hat with black band and yellow buckle that has a shamrock tucked in the band. The robot is sliding down a rainbow with a white cloud at one end and a yellow pot of gold, decorated with a green shamrock, at the other. The scene is against a blue sky filled with green shamrocks. Around the scene is a scalloped border of green with orange and yellow accents. Below the scene is "lucky pack!" in green letters that are enclosed in yellow and orange shamrocks. The "Directions" sheet has numbered 5-step instructions that are enclosed in the same scalloped border as the header. Below that is "lucky pack!", which is again printed in green letters enclosed in yellow and orange shamrocks. This set also includes a sheet that will aid children in completing the activity. The page is titled "abc list" in green letters that are enclosed in yellow and orange shamrocks. Below that are directions. The sheet features the alphabet, in lowercase black letters. In the upper, left-hand corner, there is a reminder enclosed in the same scalloped border as the other 2 sheets listed above. The "Answer Key" has an image of a smiling leprechaun, dressed in a green suit with a yellow shirt, sliding down the same rainbow that is on the header sheet. This page feature a numbered list of the St. Patrick's Day words/phrases, that are on the cards, in alphabetical order. Below the list is "lucky pack!", again printed in green letters enclosed in yellow and orange shamrocks. The recording sheet is titled "On a lucky day . . .", with the letters in "lucky" enclosed in green and orange shamrocks. Up at the top is a place for children to print both their name and the date. Below the title are directions. This page has an image of a green shamrock and a standing, orange-bearded leprechaun, in a green suit and yellow shirt, holding a black pot of gold. There is also a smiling, orange-haired leprechaun, dressed in a green suit with yellow shirt and orange bow tie, sitting in a black pot of gold that is decorated with a green shamrock. He has a gold coin in one hand and others are spilling out of the pot. This page features 3 different exercises that are separated by dotted lines. The first section has 4 numbered blanks. To the left of the list, it gives 4 St. Patrick's Day words that the leprechaun, in the pot of gold, wants to see put in alphabetical order. The second section also has 4 numbered blanks. Four words/phrases are given that are associated with St. Patrick's Day traditions. Children need to put them in alphabetical order. The final section of the page has directions which ask children to choose 2 words from the above lists and use them in a sentence. There are 3 lines on which children can write their sentence. The word cards have an outside green border. Then, there is the same blue background with green shamrocks as on the header sheet. In the center of each card is a green scalloped border with a white box in it that has a black printed word/phrase. In the lower, left-hand corner of each card is a St. Patrick's Day image (a green shamrock, a smiling brown teddy bear that is wearing a St. Patrick's Day hat and is holding a yellow pot of gold decorated with a green shamrock, an orange-eyebrowed owl who is dressed in his St. Patrick's Day best that is holding a yellow pot of gold decorated with a green shamrock, a standing girl robot with pink cheeks/arms/legs who is holding a rainbow above her head, a standing boy robot with blue arms and legs who is holding a rainbow above his head, a standing woman robot with pink cheeks/arms/legs who is wearing a St. Patrick's Day hat and holding a gold coin in her hands, a standing man robot with bushy orange eyebrows and blue arms/legs who has a green shamrock on his chest and is holding a gold coin, the robot featured on the header sheet, and the 3 leprechauns featured on other pages in the set). To set up this activity, the header sheet, direction page, and "abc list" are laid out in the middle of the playing area. The cards are then mixed up and laid out around the 3 sheets. Children then read the words on the cards and lay them out in alphabetical order. They then use the answer key to check their work. Last of all, children complete the exercise sheet that needs to be written on. This activity set could be used by either an individual child or by a group of children. If used with a group, children would simply take turns putting the cards in alphabetical order and work cooperatively on the recording sheet. Additional copies of the recording sheet could also be made. This set would make a wonderful addition to a 2nd grade classroom to be used during Literacy Centers around St. Patrick's Day! It would also be great to have in a household with young children! I am hoping to find it a good home.
