Description: This compound word activity set, with a Thanksgiving theme, is adorable! It is brand new and in excellent condition! I laminated the items, so they could be used with a fine-tip dry erase marker, and then wiped clean with a cloth or tissue, so they could be reused! This set is from a smoke free home. I received this set at an after school, Title I workshop for teachers when I was teaching 1st grade. Two of the sheets were simply black and white, so I colored them in with colored pencils to make them more inviting to children. The other two activities were cut and glue, but I decided to laminate the pieces and cut them out, so they could be used again. This set consists of a "Thanksgiving Compound Words" sheet, a "Compound Words Thanksgiving" page, 2 "Compound Words Record Sheets", and 12 word cards (6 for one "Compound Words Record Sheet" and 6 for the other) that measure 2.125" x 1.625". The above 4 pages all measure 8.5" x 11". The word cards come in a tiny ziploc bag for storage. The "Thanksgiving Compound Words" sheet has a title in bold black lettering and a place for children to print their name at the top. It is illustrated, at the bottom, with a picture of an Indian girl, dressed in a deerskin outfit, carrying ears of corn and a Pilgrim boy, dressed in a blue suit with white collar and cuffs, carrying a bushel basket of fruits and vegetables. Below the title are directions. Underneath the directions are 2 columns that each have 6 words and a numbered blank list (1-6). Children draw lines to match up words to make compound words and then record them on the provided lines. The "Compound Words Thanksgiving" page has a black title and a place for children to print their name at the top. It is illustrated with a turkey in different shades or brown, an Indian bear dressed in a brown deerskin outfit and colorful headband with feather, and a Pilgrim bear dressed in a blue outfit with a white collar and blue hat with black band and gold buckle. Below the title are directions. Underneath the directions are 5 columns that each have 4 words. And, below that are 2 columns. Each column has 5 boxes. Each box has a line in the middle. Children make compound words, using the bank of words, and record them on the lines in the boxes. Both "Compound Words Record Sheets" have a place for children to print their name and date at the top. One is illustrated with a boy Pilgrim dressed in a dark grey outfit and hat. The other is illustrated with a girl Pilgrim dressed in a white bonnet, and dark grey dress with white collar and apron. Both have speech balloons with directions. Above the characters, are 2 columns of boxes. Each column has 3 boxes. In the first column of boxes, "Glue half a compound word here." is written. In the second column of boxes, "Glue the other half of a compound word here." is written. The word cards that go with these sheets are illustrated with the same images of the Pilgrim boy and girl, so you know which cards go with which recording sheet. Here, children lay out the 6 word cards next to the recording sheet. They then match them up to make 3 compound words, and lay them out on the boxes on the page. As these sheets are laminated, children might also write the compound words in the blank space, on the right side of the sheet, across from where they laid them out. This set would make a wonderful addition to a 1st grade classroom to be used during Literacy Centers around Thanksgiving! It would also be great to have in a household with young children! I am hoping to find it a good home.
