Description: Rare original antique engraving print from an 1860s illustrated journal. These two antique prints depicts four views of Broadmoor Hospital, a psychiatric hospital at Crowthorne in Berkshire, England, plus a long article. The article begins below the large exterior picture and continuing on the page with three pictures. The pictures show the exterior, the female dormitory, the male dormitory and the dayroom for male prisioners. The hospital was first known as the Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum. It was built to a design by Sir Joshua Jebb, an officer of the Corps of Royal Engineers, and covered 53 acres (210,000 square metres) within its secure perimeter. The first patient was a female admitted for infanticide on 27 May 1863.The prints are very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 15 inches (28 x 38 cm). The pictures and text fills most of each page. The page is in excellent condition for its age. There is text/photos on the back of the print. See scan for an accurate view of the condition.
