After Ukrainian troops forced the enemy back to Kherson, Mykolaiv, which had been damaged but not conquered, gradually returned to life: railroad service, electricity, water, and heat supply were restored. On 24 March 2022, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Mykolaiv the honorary title of Hero City of Ukraine.
