Description: This is a rare Made in Japan Squier by Fender Jazz Bass. The serial number indicates that it was made between 1984 and 1987. It is finished in black paint, presumably with a maple neck and a rosewood fretboard (although I can't verify the wood species myself). I have replaced the pickguard with a new aftermarket version. It required some fitting around the neck, neck pickup, and the knob plate. I also did not want to drill extra holes where any of the screw-holes of the new pickguard do not line up with the existing holes in the body. I figured I would leave it to the final owner to make the decision whether to drill holes in the body, or to get an undrilled pickguard and fit them manually. As it is, the current pickguard looks fine from a couple of feet away, but a close examination shows that I am an amateur pickguard-fitter at best. However, it was a major upgrade over the existing pickguard, which was obviously aftermarket and badly modified to fit around the pickups. The electronics need a little work. Both pickups definitely work, but at certain knob positions the sound will drop out, and it can take some fooling around to get the sound going again. I'm sure that new potentiometers will most likely fix this issue. I have replaced one potentiometer, as the shaft of one of them had broken when I bought this bass, and the knob would not stay on. (All the knobs are original to my knowledge -- they're the ones that came with the bass when I got it, at least.) Unfortunately I am an amateur solderer and I'm not sure if I did a good job with it. The above issue still persists. I'm sure that a competent luthier could have it solved quickly, but I have decided not to mess with it anymore and to let the final buyer decide what repairs/modifications to make, if any. I do still have the original potentiometer, which I will include with the purchase. The bridge looks to be an aftermarket Schaller roller style, but I could not find any markings on it (I did not remove the bridge). It does appear to be well-made and allows for easy adjustment of the string height as well as the string spacing. The grounding strap to the bridge looks correct to the originals from what I have seen of other MIJ Squier Jazzes on eBay. The pickups, neck etc. all appear to be original as well. The paint is in what I consider to be fantastic condition for being 40 years old. No cracking or crazing, still nice and glossy. Of course it has some dings and scratches, but none are deep enough to be what I would consider gouges. The worst dings are on the lower bouts of the guitar, see photos. In all cases please refer to the photos and video to determine the actual condition of the guitar. I am an amateur at best. I also took a video showing the neck condition to the best of my ability (holding down the E string at the 1st fret, and then at the 12th and then the highest fret). It appears straight to me, but please refer to the video and don't hesitate to ask for more info or further photos if you're at all unsure. Ebay says the video could take up to 48 hours to approve, please be patient as I start on the string height / neck straightness and then give a quick view of the entire guitar. Keep in mind this guitar has lived in Lubbock, Texas which is at 3500' in altitude and extremely dry (10-20% humidity is the norm). Some acclimatization may occur en route to your location which may affect the neck straightness or other characteristics of the guitar. I have described this guitar to the best of my ability and will not be liable for anything other than obvious shipping damage. In order to prevent any such damage, this guitar will be shipped in the Roadrunner polyfoam case (roughly $100 value) that you see in the photos.
