Description: This beautiful, 27 1/2" early covered wagon china head doll was made by Kestner in the 1850's. She has an exceptionally fine pink-tint and expert painting of facial features. She has deep blue eyes, with light red lid line and red accents in her eye corners, red circular nostril dots, black arched, single-stroke brows, and a slightly smiling mouth with a white line between her lips which is attributed to, and documented on Kestner china heads. The hairstyle on Covered Wagon dolls of the 1850's feature a center part with smooth hair on top and sides that ends with short, vertical curls at the ears and around the back of the head. This very high-quality doll is perfect with no damage or repairs and retains her original sturdy cloth body with kid forearms and individually-stitched fingers. She has some typical body wear which is to be expected in a doll of her age and her arms look to have been recovered with white kid. A previous owner glued her original scalloped chemisette to the edges of her plate but I have inspected her carefully and there is no damage or repair underneath. Her shoulder head alone is 7 1/2" tall and 7 1/2" wide. Besides her petticoat, she is beautifully dressed in an antique two-piece pink cotton dress consisting of a a cartridge pleated bodice with 3/4 sleeves, and matching cartridge pleated full skirt of her appropriate era. There are antique pink silk ribbons at her shoulders. If you've been looking for an early covered wagon doll this one has great beauty and presence, along with her size, as she sits beautifully in an antique chair of mine. Her smile looks as if she has been keeping sweet little secrets to herself for 175 years! If you have any questions at all, please message me. I am always happy to help. I want everyone to be happy with their purchases. Please consider the photos to be part of the description and I will happily provide more if you need. I've been an antique doll dealer and collector since 1990 and have a lot of experience packing and shipping fragile antiques, so please feel confident buying from me.
