Jacob Petit Antique French Paris Porcelain Hand Painted Bowl

Description: Description Antique mid-19th century French porcelain bowl by Jacob Petit. Hand painted with an array of vibrant flowers and gilt trim. Measures 7 5/8" diameter x 3 1/4" height. Marked on the underside with initials J.P. underglaze. Jacob Mardochee dit Petit (1796-1865) trained as a painter in Paris, travelled to Italy, Switzerland, Germany and England where he lived and worked as a theatre set designer. After a short stint at Sevres he purchased the Baruch Weil porcelain factory in Belleville in 1830 and in 1834 at the factory in Fontainebleau where he made Rococo-style porcelain noted for its originality and vivid colors.
