Description: This is an original advertisement for the January Sale (3,597th Friday Surprise January 31, 1930) at the Irvington Club in Portland, Oregon. The title is a play on the former Meier & Frank's weekly "Friday Surprise" sales. You have to have lived in Portland all your life and be 81 (like me) to remember those days. The music was provided by the Red Hot Dance Band and it cost 99 cents a couple to attend. It began at 9:00 p.m. Folded the advertisement is 3 & 1/4" by 2 & 1/2". On the back are the names of the floor walkers (chaperons) and salesmen.
