Description: Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Inner Temple This item is a large decorative part from a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. This piece is the inner temple and the main feature of the altar. Typically, it houses a statue and small scrolls at the back. It is a stunning piece with 3D carved wood and decorations like those in a Japanese temple. Birds (Ho-oh), pine trees, plum blossoms, bamboo, and iris flower accents adorn this piece. Small sliding doors are on the very bottom of the altar. This large butsudan piece is excellent for installing or creating a custom butsudan in a home. In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith and a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors, a "small temple in the home."
