John Forsythe" At the age of nineteen in 1937 and landed his first job in entertainment serving as an announcer at Ebbets Field for the Brooklyn Dodgers. His first notable acting role was in the Broadway play "Yankee Point" (1942) and while serving with the US Army Air Corps during World War II, he appeared in the stage production of "Winged Victory" (1943 to 1944), also marking his film debut in the picture "Destination Tokyo" (1944). During the 1950s, Forsythe came to prominence with the starring role of Captain Fisby in the Tony Award-winning comedy "The Teahouse of the August Moon" (1953 to 1956), and had a memorable lead part in the Alfred Hitchcock dark comedy "The Trouble with Harry" (1955), before becoming a familiar presence to TV audiences as Bentley Gregg in the series "Bachelor Father" (1957 to 1962). Further memorable film roles followed with "In Cold Blood" (1967), a reunion with Hitchcock for the picture "Topaz" (1969), and additional TV series "The John Forsythe Show" (1965 to 1966) and "To Rome With Love" (1969 to 1971). Perhaps, Forsythe's greatest success began during the mid-1970s, beginning with his part of the unseen Charlie Townsend in the Aaron Spelling series "Charlie's Angels" (1976 to 1981), followed by his performance as the evil Judge Fleming in the film ".....And Justice For All" (1979) and his role of Blake Carrington in "Dynasty" (1981 to 1989), which earned him two Golden Globe Awards and several Emmy Award nominations.
