Description: A collection of old songs learned from his parents, and contemporary songs by himself and others. Mr. Helm wrote the liner notes including backstory on the songs and songwriters. Levon's work with the Band had more of a "rock" style, while this set sounds more rootsy and traditional old-tyme rural folk/blues/bluegrass. Recorded late in his career, Levon wears his experience like a true craftsman--effortless and rich. A very sturdy album, with a subtle but powerful character as you'd expect from his Appalachian/Southern roots. Recommended to any Band, Dylan, Steve Earle, etc. fans (one song is in fact a Steve Earle cover).
