Description: Life: The First Decade 200 Black and White Photos from the First 10 Years of Life Magazine (1936 - 1945), copyright 1979 Trade Paperback, 206 pp, Excellent Used Condition (EUC) A wonderful book containing a photographic record of the late 1930s and early 1940s as seen through the lens of many of Life Magazines best and famous photographers. Margaret Bourke-White, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Philippe Halsman, Cecil Beaton, Eugene W. Smith and Peter Stackpole, to name a few. Ralph Graves, Corporate Editor, noted, "The 200 vintage prints in this exhibition come from LIFE's first decade - the years 1936-45. The great majority of them were published in the magazine. I think you will agree that they are not only a remarkable journalistic record and reminder of those years but are also works of art...What began as a small batch of pictures with dubious value is today a huge, important and immensely useful collection - more than 18 million images...It is the largest privately owned collection in the world..." The book has some minor issues after 45 years including some creases and smudges on the covers and bent/bumped corners. No loose or missing pages and no marks observed on any pages.
