Description: These three volumes in the Modern Library series are The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon. See the front flap photo for an overview. 418 pgs In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, the Modern Library issued a number of jackets with “plain brown wrapper” typographical jackets. The rust colored books have Toledano G8 bindings, A or blank endpapers, and Gk jackets. The unclipped jackets have $16.95 prices and the copyright pages are undated. The used books have clean covers, bright gilt, and nominal signs of use. Fanning the pages, I noted no underlining or marginalia, no offensive odor, and the bindings are so firm the books are likely unread. The unclipped jackets ($16.95) are otherwise complete with no chips and no edgewear. Note the white area on the photo is camera flash, not a chip. See photos.
