Description: NATIVE AMERICAN PRE-CONTACT/Ca. 1000-1500 CE SOUTHWEST COUNCIL PIPE Found in the region of the Apache and Comanche, this would likely have been smoked by four tribal leaders to resolve pressing issues. Hollow stems rolled from corn husks or reeds would have been inserted in the four holes to reach each of the two bowls. Specifics: The pipe is made of indurated clay turned hard as stone over the centuries. In one or two places it may be possible to discern the marks of shaping fingerprints. The surface, decorated by incised zig-zag motif all the way around, is aged by mineralization with a small ancient “fleabite” on the lip and a nearly invisible hairline, which does not appear to go all the way through, from the lip to one of the smoking holes. Measures: 2 1/4 by 1 1/2 inches Guaranteed to be authentic.
