It is located in Groton, CT. In 1868, the state of Connecticut gave the Navy 112 acres of land along the Thames River in Groton to build a Naval Station. It was originally a Navy yard and in June 1916 was designated the Navy’s first submarine Base and today occupies more than 680 acres and straddles the communities of Groton and Ledyard, Connecticut. The painting is on a nautical chart with an Virginia Class Attack Submarine being assisted with two tugboats ( Paul A. & John P. Wronowski ) owned by the Thames Towboat company.
