HENRY'S STEAK HOUSE at West 4th St. and Sixth Ave. in Greenwich Village is one of New York's most unusual restaurants. The owner, Mr. Vito Di Lucia, converted it from a butcher shop, retaining many of the features originally found there: chopping blocks (cocktail tables), meat hooks (for coats and beer mugs), two walk-in refrigerator spaces (dining rooms). The sawdust on the floor, an 1890 solid mahogany bar, gas burning light fixtures (originally Balti- more street lamps), waiters in straw hats and white butcher coats, set a charming scene for the excellent steak and fish dinners cooked over real live charcoal, for which O.Henry's is famous. Drawing by Joseph Papin, noted Village artist.
