Description: Lock & Dam #8 in the Ohio River Between East Liverpool & Wellsville, OHPostcard Vintage Card View Standard Capture the nostalgia of a bygone era with this remarkable vintage postcard. Transport yourself back in time to witness the majesty of the Ohio River, between the charming towns of East Liverpool, OH and Wellsville, OH. In order to better navigate the Ohio River, the US Army Corps of Engineers in the early 1900's designed a system of Locks and Dams. The initial project produced 51 wooden wicket dams along the length of the river used to hold up water and allow navigation during low water periods. During high water the wickets were lowered. This postcard is a true piece of history, bearing witness to a time when handwritten messages and postage stamps were the primary means of communication. The carefully preserved image showcases the charming the Lock & Dam standing against the backdrop of the flowing Ohio River. I combine shipping so please see my other auctions.
