Description: Here's are two, standard sized carte de visites, 2 3/8" x 4", from the 1880 presidential campaign. They picture the democrat party nominees, Winfield Scott Hancock and his running mate, William English, with the hard-to-find printing at bottom saying "Democratic Candidate for" president and veep. Plus, the photo of Mr. English hardly ever surfaces for you to be able to mate them up. Hancock was the famous Civil War general for the Union Army and hero of Gettysburg nicknamed "The Superb." He lost in a real squeaker to James Garfield, with only a small vote difference between them when the smoke cleared, one source saying the popular vote was 48.3% to 48.2%. It was one of the closest elections in U.S. history according to Wikipedia although Garfield won big in the Electoral College. We have a matching Hancock cabinet card photo in our eBay store, (item # 305072303589) and a pair of similar, lesser-priced CDV's that don't say "Democratic Candidate for" underneath the photos, our item 305330305889. These are in nice condition, but please look at our images to judge this for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential and other collectible material so buy with confidence. We'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we don't. We just issue a refund for any overpayment. Shipping on them will be $5.50, carefully packed, first class with tracking. 34417877
