Description: Photo is of a typical Paph. Hampshire Stage 'Lime Sherbet' AM/AOS flower. The plants being offered are established in pot and have at least one old growth and one new growth. I registered Paph. Hampshire Stage in 2001 (Paph. sukhakulii x Paph. Iantha Stage). This clone, 'Lime Sherbet', was awarded an 85 point AM from the AOS in 2004. I always find back crosses interesting, as they can reinforce certain traits of the parents in the progeny. Here, going back onto sukhakulii 'Hampshire' CCM/AOS, the progeny have intense, distinctive sukhakulii coloration, retain the large size from the rothschildianum, and they bloom regularly, at least on an annual basis on well grown plants, like sukhakulii. The sukhakulii used: in the late 70's or early 80's, Hausermann's made an importation of a population of sukhakulii that had very nice flowers. I selected out 15 of the nicest flowered and growing individuals. Two clones survived and have thrived for me, and I continue to use them because they grow well and bloom regularly. While these two clones ('Hampshire' and 'Brier Hill') do not have the widest petals of the original 15, when used in breeding they produce progeny with fairly wide petals, indicative of the gene pool that they were from when collected. I ship when night temperatures in Chicago are 30 degrees F or above.
