Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a nice Ipsen P&E Danish terracotta Art Pottery vase, c. 1900. The vase has a bulbous form and has a molded bird on branch with foliage design around the center of the body with the base having teal colored airbrushed details. The body of the vase has an orangy-terracotta color with the leaves being a brownish-teal color. The vase is marked with the incised crown mark and intertwined initials P&E (for Peter and his wife Enke), model # 449 and several other identification marks. The company was established in 1843 by Rasmus Peter Ipsen who was later joined by his son Bertel. Bertel expanded the company and opened shops in both Paris and London and represented the line at most world exhibitions from 1846-1917. An interesting note is that Georg Jensen who is the famous Danish silversmith and jewelry designer early in his career worked as an artist for Ipsen. Measures 6" high with a 3" diameter top and an overall width of 4 1/4". Weighs 1.2 pounds. This nice vase is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws although there is a color skip on the inside of the vase from production. The colors are rich and the design has excellent details. We at Antiques & Moore have been in the Antiques business for over 30 years and try to describe our items as accurately as possible.
