Description: This 1981 UK stereo album from L'Oiseau-Lyre's Florilegium Series (DSLO 561) features performances of several works by Henry Purcell. The tracks are taken from several stage plays that Purcell composed for, including The Double Dealer, The Richmond Heiress (or A Woman Once in the Right), The Rival Sisters (or The Violence of Love), Henry the Second, King of England, and finally Tyrannic Love (or The Royal Martyr). They are performed by Judith Nelson (soprano), Emma Kirkby (soprano), Martyn Hill (tenor), and David Thomas (bass), accompanied by The Academy of Ancient Music, a period-instrument ("on authentic instruments") orchestra conducted by Christopher Hogwood, who also plays harpsichord. The album also includes a several-page booklet with liner notes and English lyrics. The liner notes are in English by Richard Luckett, and are also translated into French and German. The outer sleeve shows a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back (Photo 2). The inner sleeve is slightly dog-eared in the upper right corner (most clearly visible in Photo 5). This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear. NOTES:Album sleeves may have a small index sticker, usually in the upper right corner of the back, which was applied when the album was first purchased for this private collection. Please be sure you know the Shipping charge to your address before bidding.
