Description: ( CELL PHONE USERS PLEASE CLICK THE "SEE FULL DESCRIPTION" LINK BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS AND PHOTOGRAPHS! ) Rare Antique c.1900 Firing Museum Copy 1/3 Scale Model of a 18th Century British Coehorn Mortar Click images to enlarge Description Up for Consideration is a Rare Antique c.1900 Firing Museum Copy 1/3 Scale Model of a Late 18th Century, Revolutionary War British Coehorn Siege Mortar! c1890-1920's This is a rare, very nicely made Antique c.1900 Museum Copy, 1/3 scale model of a 18th century Revolutionary War to War of 1812 British Coehorn siege mortar. The heavy solid brass mortar is stunning and measures 7" in length end to end, with just under 2 1/2" wide bore opening which continues 6 ¼” deep bore to the deep touch hole. A 1" powder reservoir about 2" deep. The brass barrel is a nicely and naturally tarnished with a deep honey brown patina and features a nice, raised vent. The muzzle face is flat, and the raised King George III cypher “GR” is present on the back just above the vent hole. This is a 100% firing canon and has been used in the past as there are signs of black powder burns by the vent. The trunnions are un-marked and come out 1” on each side with a total length of 5 ½” end to end. The barrel sits atop a very well-made and historically accurate sledge antique base of oak wood, deeply stained on the top and red painted on the lower portion with a brass trim going around the center. The mortar bed itself measures 15 1/4" in length and is 8 1/4" wide with a height of 4". There are two hand forged iron bands across its top flat which hold the cannon barrel in place and can be removed quite simply. There are two heavy iron rings on either end of the base and two, hand forged iron handles on the other side used for transporting and positioning this heavy 30-pound piece. All the iron hardware shows a very pleasing and natural dark oxidation-finish. Overall, a quality-made scaled down museum copy of a Military Coehorn mortar and bed that would make a very attractive display piece that certainly could be used for a bit of long-range target practice. If you did not know it, you would think that this Coehorn Mortar Cannon was made period late 18th century. It is so wonderfully crafted and has been on display in a private museum in Worcester, Massachusetts for many years! Condition is wonderful with untoched patina, though needing a good cleaning inside the barrel before trying to fire this cannon. This 1/3 Scale Coehorn Mortar weigh nearly 30 pounds and shipping may get very expensive. We have no problem meeting up with anyone to pick this up anywhere in the greater New England Area. This is an Ex-Museum Piece which had previously been on display in a Private Collection in Worcester, Massachusetts for many years! A Scarce and highly collectible Piece of History.
