Description: Get excited! This is a true gem! Museum worthy. One of a kind! Never before seen with the lid! Northwood Red Splatter Glass Straw Jar With Lid! c. 1888 The base of this jar has been used by collectors to attribute the provenance of the early victorian straw jars to the Northwood Glass Company. This red splatter jar with lid has never been reported (until now.). This jar is the first one to surface with a lid! The amazing history and importance of this jar can be explored at classicalglassstore.com. Visit the website, choose “Glass Research” from the menu. Then choose “Antique & Collectible Straw Jars Online Book.” Explore the pages of Jerry Hack & Bill Bank’s fantastic book. You will see all of the early straw jars and will learn that this is the very first, used at the emergence of the very first soda fountains. You will also discover that the base of this red splatter jar was used to attribute these early jars to the Northwood line! And, now, you have a chance to own that jar, but WITH THE LID! This jar needs a good cleaning. I am not a glass expert, but I do know that a jar of this age and rarity needs to be handled very carefully. I will leave cleaning to the new owner. The bottom inside of the jar’s base definitely needs cleaning as you can see the dirt. The base of the jar has one inner rim chip and one flea bite. The lid has a significant crack, but is very, very stable. It is stable enough that in handling I concluded that casual handling will NOT cause further problems or complications for the crack. It doesn’t feel fragile. There are eight small chips along the inner rim of the lid. There are also a few very tiny flea bites on lids inner rim. Please study pictures. All the flaws are detailed in the pictures. Measures: 11” tall without lid 13” tall with lid.
