Description: Rare Brass & Copper Ganga-Jumna Lota This bulbous vessel was made to store lustral, holy water, perhaps from the Ganges. The pot has got designing of leaves and flowers. It is remarkable for the intricacy of its decoration which combines brass and copper to provide a pleasing contrast. The technique of using brass and copper together in India is called Ganga-Jamuna, said to be from the colors of the Ganga and Jamuna rivers. Inlaying One Metal Into Other Is Called The GANGA-JAMUNA Work. The Base Metal Brass and Then Have Been Inlaid With The Copper. There are minute damages which we have marked. It has a traditional rounded pot shape and would've been produced as a Lota / water vessel.
