Synopsis - Yolla Niclas was a photographer who emigrated to the United States in 1941, after being held in a German concentration camp. Although she arrived in New York penniless and without her photography equipment, a stranger gave her a camera, and her career as a photographer in the United States flourished. Her work was shown in many museums and galleries, and she published numerous children's books featuring her photography, including David and the Seagulls, The Flower of Vassiliki, and The Island Shepard. Niclas died in 1977 at her home in East Hartford, Connecticut. White Tails and Green Clover, illustrated throughout with black and white photos, is set in Wickham Park, in East Hartford/Manchester, Connecticut. The story follows the lives of the wild cottontail rabbits that Niclas observed and photographed in the park meadows. Condition Details - The book has a square spine, a tight binding, and no marks, tears, or writing. The cover has very light edgewear, no soil or stains. The top edge of the textblock is foxed, and the margins of the text and endpapers are mildly toned. The dustjacket (in new, protective Brodart) has light edgewear with tiny chips at the corners, three 1/2 inch closed tears at the top edge, and a 1/2 X 1/4 inch chip at the top corner of the rear panel. The jacket flap margins are mildly foxed. Note: The book has a mild musty odor. I never use stock photos.
