Description: “GLOUCESTER FISHERMEN”, CIRCA 1926 SIGNED ORIGINAL ETCHING BY DANISH / AMERICAN ARTIST AND PRINTMAKER CARL JOHN DAVID NORDELL (1885-1957) This etching is signed in pencil by the artist in the margin below the image lower right: Carl J. Nordell and titled in pencil in the margin below the image lower left: Gloucester Fishermen. The image size of the etching measures 7 3/8 x 9 5/8 inches. The etching is printed on laid paper with deckle edges at the bottom and right side. The sheet with full margins measures 9 1/4 x 11 1/2 inches. Date created circa 1926, edition size unknown. The etching comes unframed. PLEASE NOTE CONDITION: There is a small faint stain spot in the upper margin near the image and a crease line to the sheet in the bottom margin center, otherwise the etching is in good condition, with no evidence of any damage to the image. Carl Johan David Nordell was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on 23 September 1885. In 1892 the Nordell family settled in Westerly, New Jersey, where Carl received his education. He studied painting with Edmund C. Tarbell at the School of Painting of the Museum of Fine Arts. He won the prestigious Paige Traveling Fellowship in 1909 and went to Paris, attending classes at the Académie Julian. He returned to Boston and established a studio at the Fenway Studio building painting figurative works, landscapes, portraits and still life. In December of 1912 he launched his career with a show of portraits and nudes at the Copley Gallery on Newbury Street.
