Up for sale is a Very Nice overall condition Sideplate with Logo (Logo is in the UPPER position on this piece), in Bright Nickel finish, that originated from a well cared-for Model 19-3 Revolver chambered in .357 Magnum. There are light handling marks present, as well as signs of general use and age on this Sideplate - please examine the image set closely to get a decent view of the detail of the finish so you have a realistic expectation of it's condition when taking delivery. Bright Nickel is quite challenging to photograph; We have provided an extensive set of images for you to consider. *** PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING REMARKS ABOUT THIS ITEM: *** - FIRST AND FOREMOST: ******* NOT ALL K-FRAME SIDEPLATES ARE THE SAME SHAPE!! ******** Take a moment to examine the LAST IMAGE/COMPOSITE in the Photoset - The upper half of the composite shows the Front, Right "Arm" of the Sideplate from a S&W Model 19-3 (Just like the one in this Listing) and then on the lower half of the composite, there is a close-up of the Front, Right "Arm" of a Sideplate from a S&W Model 66-1.... NOTICE THE SHAPE OF THE FRONT TIP, JUST AHEAD OF THE SCREW HOLE - THERE WERE TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE SHAPE OF THESE OLD K-FRAME SIDEPLATES!! PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO EXAMINE THIS IMAGE, and then compare the shape of your existing Sideplate that you're replacing - Does it match the shape of the Model 19-3, or the 66-1? This is the FIRST THING that needs to be checked when looking for a vintage K-Frame Sideplate, because there is NO WAY you are going to "Fit" the wrong version on the opposite type revolver! The Sideplate in this Listing is shaped like the one in the TOP half of the Last Image. - Secondly, ALL HOLES for the Sideplate Screws are ALL THE SAME DIAMETER. This is a Vintage K-Frame Sideplate and should not be used on Models No Earlier than about the 1960's and no later than about 1987 when S&W made an engineering change to a New Yoke Retention System - This new system changed the forward-most Sideplate Screw (The Yoke Screw) to a screw with a larger diameter head: If you have a Sideplate where the forward-most screw is a little bigger than the middle and the back screw then DO NOT ORDER this Sideplate. - Also Note that the LOGO IS STAMPED IN THE UPPER-CENTER area of the Sideplate, unlike many that were "Centered" literally right in the middle of the Sideplate. The Sideplates like this one with the Logo stamped higher were generally affixed to revolvers that used a Target Stock (Grip) that covered a much larger area of the Sideplate, as opposed to revolvers that shipped with Service Stocks or Magna Stocks (like a Model 10) that didn't come up as far and would then not cover the Logo on the Sideplate that was Centered on those guns. Be aware that there are two different "versions" of Logo Placement out there! - FINAL NOTE: Please keep in mind, these vintage Sideplates - especially the early production model revolvers such as the one this piece was removed from - were all hand-fitted during final assembly, and some minor polishing or fitting may be required when installing the Sideplate to the right side opening of the body of the Revolver to ensure a proper, snug & flush fit. As with all replacement gun parts, they should be installed by a competent, licensed gunsmith. As with any vintage gun part there may be minor imperfections and we have attempted to capture a fair rendition of the condition of the item in the image set. See photos for full description.
