Description: A fabulously beautiful, genuine Georgian ring in solid 18 carat gold. It's set with a six-petaled flower of lustrous seed pearls around a tiny glistening old mine-cut diamond. Wonderfully, the pearls have a millegrain border which contrasts with the six-point star border of the diamond - in silver to highlight the stone. But the finest aspect of this piece is the shoulders. Gently tapering ribbons of gold bear graduating beadwork among incredible hand chased and engraved butterfly patterning, with typically Georgian flower terminals. This leads to a lovely tapering ribbed band that completes the circle. Inside the band is finely hand engraved the dedication: 'John Weston Goss Ob.t 11 Nov.r 1835 Æt 66'. A quick search reveals John Weston Goss was a merchant in West Teignmouth, after serving in the Indian Civil Service during his army service years. His great grandson was James Purdon Lewes Thomas, First Lord of the British Admiralty between 1951 and 1956. It's in remarkable condition for its age, with minimal wear to the gold and no loss or damage. It weighs in at 2.6 grams, measures 9 mm across the head and is a size 6, resizable if needed.
