Thewalt German Beer Stein Hunters Calling Hounds Drinking Brown Branch Handle

Description: Here's a stein by Thewalt of the Westerwald region of Germany that I acquired from a local estate. The Thewalt mark dates it to post 1939. I would guess that it was made in the late 20th century. I could not find another exactly like this one so it should be great to add to a collection. The scene around the stein includes 5 men and 1 woman. Two men are on horseback with one of them sounding a hunting horn. One man is on the ground beside a couple of young dogs. The other folks are standing around drinking. It looks to me like they've come in from a hunt and are calling the other dogs in, or are preparing to leave. The scene is colorfully hand painted in detail. The stein is chocolate colored around the top and bottom. It's a nice change from the common iridescent orange. The tree branch shaped handle is also brown. This stein is unused and in mint condition. The original Thewalt hang tag string is attached with a somewhat worn tag (that I accidentally tore off myself). It measures 7 1/4" tall at the rim, and 9 1/2" tall overall with the pewter lid.
