Description: Tintagel Castle Doorway Cornwall 1924 Vintage Print A colour tinted print from a disbound book about Britain dated 1924, the reverse side has text or an unrelated picture. Caption beneath the picture - CASTLE DOORWAY, TINTAGEL. Tintagel is alleged to have been the birthplace of King Arthur, and was known In the time of the Domesday survey as Dunchine, meaning "chain castle." David, Prince of Wales, was entertained here in 1245, and up to the reign of Elizabeth It was used from time to time as a prison. Slate rocks surrounding the castle's site have been weathered into curious forms, and some have received the name of "King Arthur's cups and saucers." Suitable for framing, the average picture size is approx 4.75" x 7.75" or 12cm x 19.5cm, actual page size inc shaded border and text approx 7.875" x 10.375". This is a colour tinted vintage print, not a modern copy and does show signs of age or previous use commensurate with the age of the print with possible light creases, marks or foxing.
