Description: This treen measure is made from boxwood and would have been used for measuring baking soda and cream of tartar to create baking powder, a leavening agent essential to make baked products rise in the oven. It does not appear to have had much use and my estimate of its age is only provisional as I haven't found any other examples which suggests it is rare. The measure is divided into two parts, the "soda" side being exactly twice the volume of the "acid" side so the powders can be mixed at a two to one ratio. It stands 2.5 inches high and is slightly barrel shaped and two inches in diameter. The wood has a lovely golden patina.
