Description: Item #4050 -This thin section was cut from an amethyst stalactite that is sometimes found in amethyst geodes from Uruguay. Whole stalactites are quite rare and very expensive. The thin sections are cut 3/16 to 1/4 inch in thickness, much like you would cut slices of meat. The sections are then polished on both sides. Smaller diameter sections are almost always made into jewelry, most often by wire-wrapping the piece. Larger diameter sections are usually used as specimens.
