It was introduced into US military service in 1965 to replace the M-1951 field jacket still preferred by US Troops, an improvement on the M-1943 field jacket of Second World War design. The M-1965 had a built-in hood that rolled up and fit into a pouch on the back of the neck as opposed to the separate hood that attached to the M-1951. The M-1965 also had velcro fasteners on the sleeve cuffs and collar. The M-65 field jacket was widely used by United States Forces during the Vietnam War in which the jacket became useful for troops serving in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam, as well as keeping a soldier warm from the cool weather conditions that came after monsoonal rains. It was a standard issue to US troops in several other wars all around the globe as well. The M-1965 field jacket can be combined with a button-in insulated lining for cold-weather wear, as well as a button on fur trimmed winter hood. SMALL REGULAR The Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) are fatigues that were used by all United States Armed Forces as their standard uniform for combat situations from the early 1980s to the mid-2000s. Since then, it has been replaced or supplanted in every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, except for certain elements of the U.S. Coast Guard, which still use them as of 2013. These uniforms are called battle dress uniforms because they are intended for use during "battles", as opposed to "garrison" dress uniforms worn at parades and functions. The general design and configuration of the U.S. BDU uniform was similar to that of Vietnam-era jungle fatigues, which were in turn similar in configuration to specialty uniforms worn by U.S. paratroopers during World War II. A cold weather field coat with hood, made of nylon cotton sateen, with rounded collars, snap pocket closures and Velcro sleeve closures. The waist cord to draw the jacket in was on the inside, a hem cord was included in the same fashion. The hood was stored in a pocket in the collar closed by a zipper. There were buttons inside the coat that allowed for the use of a button in jacket liner for cold weather. In addition, a heavier fur edged winter hood could be buttoned onto the jacket. Condition: This jacket is fully functional. Priced accordingly.
