In 2000, to mark the Millennium, two brothers started publishing a little magazine described as a cross between Mad Magazine and Chess Informant. Madcap, irreverent, and clearly different from other chess magazine, Yetman Brothers' Descriptive Chess Magazine was one of a kind. It was published nine times a year: New Year's Day, Winter, April Fools' Day, Spring, 4th of July, Summer, Hallowe'en, Autumn, Christmastide. The brothers ceased publication of the magazine in 2009, but their spirit and their writing lives on in their monographs. Every July 4th the brothers would publish a biography of an American master. There have been several famous American masters: Paul Morphy, Frank Marshall, Samuel Reshevsky, Reuben Fine, Bobby Fischer. One of this elite company was Harry Nelson Pillsbury, the strongest player to ever emerge from New England. In 1895 he went to play in the first great Hastings tournament, his first ever international tournament. After some nick-and-tuck with the world's top players, he finished clear first--the only time his career where he achieve this feat, though he shared first many times. In this volume are 31 games annotated by Ed Yetman, III, ICCF master. It includes games from Hastings, some of his famous blindfold games, and his legendary game from Cambridge Springs where he sprang his innovation on the then-World Champion, Emanuel Lasker.
