Description: A Smiths Enfield oak cased striking mantel clock in very good, clean condition and gwo. As you can see from the pics, the movement has been taken out checked over and serviced and is ticking away without mishap. As a striking clock it chimes once on the half and chimes the actual hour on the full. The case retains its original lacquer finish and is undamaged save for one small slither of veneer gone off the front at the very bottom which is not very noticeable. Dimensions are 9" high, 10.5" wide and 4.5" deep. It comes complete with pendulum, key and original Smiths Enfield manual. It appears to be keeping pretty good time but there is an adjuster on the pendulum for some fine tuning. The Enfield Clock Company was founded in 1929 to manufacture clocks in the manner of the German factories but by 1933 due to financial difficulties it was bought by Smiths Clocks Ltd. In 1949, Smiths built a new factory at Ystradgynlais in the upper Swansea Valley and the production of Enfield striking clocks was moved there from Edmonton. The Smiths Enfield name came into use at that time first appearing in 1950. However, this design does not appear in the Smiths Catalogues of the day (or the reference work 'Smiths Domestic Clocks' by Barrie Smith) so it is likely to have had a short run of production. Note: The postage quoted is the actual for Royal Mail Medium rate. I charge nothing for the box and wrap.
