Description: These beautiful oval ironstone platters are likely from the 1870 to 1890 period, perhaps a bit earlier. It is English, and hallmarked "W. H. Grindley", and offers a lovely floral pattern that is called "Fern". This platter has all the characteristics of the Aesthetic Movement. The organic and natural pattern, the delicacy of the flowers, together make the decoration seem almost Japanese-inspired, and the condition of the piece is generally good. The color of the transferware is blue, with the perimeter faded a bit more than the inner decoration, and there are minor and small spots of wear to the transferware. Around the perimeter, the ironstone has a subtle scalloped edge. There are no cracks, no repairs, no fleabites, no hairlines, minimal wear to the transferware, and one old chip on the underside perimeter that is just barely visible from the top. The usefully sized and versatile platters measures about 1-12 3/16" by 8 3/4" and the rim is about 1 1/4" high. It weighs over 1 1/2 pounds. In good condition. The second platter is 14"
